History

In August 1958, on its Golden Jubilee, Tata Steel gifted the citizens of Jamshedpur a 37.75-acre park in the heart of the city, which is known as Jubilee Park. The park is named Jubilee Park to mark this special occasion. The park is managed and maintained by Tata Steel.

Jubilee Park was established under the leadership of Sir Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, a great Indian industrialist, the founder of the Tata Group, and the founder of the city of Jamshedpur.

Architecture

Popularly known as the Mughal Garden of Jamshedpur, the beautiful Jubilee Park is inspired by the Brindavan Gardens of Mysore. The park covers a vast area of 500 acres and is divided into different sections. In the Mughal Garden of the park, there is a tall statue of Sir Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, the founder of the Tata Group and the city of Jamshedpur.

It is one of the most beautiful gardens in Jamshedpur. The garden looks so colorful from a distance that tourists are naturally drawn to it. This garden was established many years ago. In the evening, the Jubilee Park Fountain comes alive with colorful fountains and lights. The park looks very beautiful during sunset. Inside the park, there is a favorite spot for children called the Children’s Park, which has several rides and swings. It is a wonderful place filled with greenery and fresh air.

In the center of the park is Jayanti Sarovar, which is very popular among young people. It is a peaceful lake surrounded by greenery. There are benches in front of the lake, offering a beautiful view. Spending the evening sitting by the lake is a special experience. You can also fish in the lake. To enjoy the beauty of the lake more clearly, boating is available. In the middle of the lake, there is a Bat Island.

Smriti Udhayan, which means “Garden of Memories,” is a part of the park where plants are planted by members of various communities, organizations, and Tata Group employees in memory of great personalities or events. Shatabdi Udyan is a green lawn right in front of Jayanti Sarovar. It is the best spot for a picnic while enjoying the view of the lake. The park also has a Medicinal Garden in one section.

New Addition

In 2019, Tata Steel and JUSCO, in collaboration with Tilt Bike and Tata International, introduced an Automated Bicycle Sharing System (ABSS) in the park. You can book a bicycle through the mobile app (tilt.bike/app), which is available for free download from the Google Play Store.

Best Time

The best time to visit the park is during the celebration on March 3rd, as the park is decorated like a bride every year on this day to mark Founder’s Day (the birthday of Sir Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata). People come from far and wide to see the decorations and lights, especially from West Bengal, Bihar, and Odisha. The decorations are up for four days, from March 2nd to March 5th. The park has two entrances: the Sakchi entrance and the Circuit House entrance.

Ticket Price

Entry to all the gardens and lawns of Jubilee Park, including the Children’s Park, is free. The entry fee is only applicable for the Tata Steel Zoological Park, Nicco Jubilee Park, Splash Zone, Laser Show, and Musical Fountain.

How to Reach

Airways: Apart from Kolkata, the nearest airport to Jubilee Park is Birsa Munda International Airport in Ranchi, which is about 131 km away from the park.

Railways: The nearest railway station to the park is Tata Nagar Railway Junction, located about 12 km away. Tata Nagar (Jamshedpur) is one of the major railway stations of South Eastern Railway and is directly connected to major cities of India like Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Patna, Raipur, Bhubaneswar, Nagpur, and others. The railway station is known as Tata Nagar.

Roadways: Located in Jamshedpur, Jubilee Park is connected to all major cities in India. National Highway 33 (from Baharagora to Barhi) passes through the city and connects to National Highway 2, linking Kolkata and Delhi. Direct bus services (both government and private) are available from major cities like Ranchi (131 km), Patna, Gaya, Kolkata (250 km), and other important cities in Bihar, Bengal, and Odisha to Jamshedpur.

Local transport: Mini buses, auto-rickshaws, and rickshaws are available for traveling around the city.
