Rasika Dugal (born 17 January 1985) is a renowned Indian actress known for her versatile performances in films, television, and digital web series. Born and raised in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, Rasika has carved a niche for herself in the Indian entertainment industry with her powerful, nuanced portrayals across both mainstream and independent projects. She gained widespread recognition for her role as Beena Tripathi in the Amazon Prime Video series Mirzapur (2018–present).
Early Life and Education
Rasika was born in the Circuit House Area of Jamshedpur, Jharkhand to Jessie and Raveen Dugal. A bright student, she completed her B.Sc. in Mathematics from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi, in 2004. She later pursued a postgraduate diploma in Social Communications Media from Sophia Polytechnic, Mumbai, and also earned a diploma in acting from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune.
Career
Early Work (2007–2014)
Rasika began her acting career with a small role in Anwar (2007), followed by appearances in films like No Smoking, Hijack, Tahaan, Agyaat, Aurangzeb, and the indie psychological drama Kshay. During this phase, she also made her presence felt on television with shows like Powder, Rishta.com, Kismat, and Upanishad Ganga.
Critical Acclaim (2015–2017)
Her breakthrough came with the 2015 film Qissa, in which she played Neeli — a role that won her critical acclaim. She also worked in the Malayalam hit Kammatti Paadam, and played significant parts in Tu Hai Mera Sunday, Dariba Diaries, and P.O.W.–Bandi Yuddh Ke. Rasika also gained attention through TVF’s popular web series like Permanent Roommates and Humorously Yours.
Mainstream Recognition (2018–present)
Rasika’s career scaled new heights with her role as Beena Tripathi in Mirzapur (2018–present). That same year, she portrayed Safia, the wife of writer Saadat Hasan Manto, in the biopic Manto — earning her a nomination at the Screen Awards for Best Supporting Actress. She later starred in Hamid (2018), winning the Best Actress award at the Rajasthan International Film Festival.
